”Bumble island is a usual place, with animals unlike anything you’ve ever seen,” said Dr. Zooklandberg as he greeted Mrs. Claus and Fluffy, her newly appointed Director for the Arts of Exotic Zoology. They docked the ship and loaded their belongings into the caravan, where they would be staying for the duration of their expedition. Dr. Zooklandberg took to preparing a nourishing stew over an open fire while Mrs. Claus and Fluffy set out with their cameras to explore along the shore.
Mrs. Claus’ jaw dropped in amazement as she saw what appeared to be bubbling with colorful inhabitants floating along the edge of the path about half a mile off the beach. She began snapping photos in utter astonishment, hardly believing not only what she saw, but what she heard. It appeared while each species had their own language; they openly socialized and communicated with each other like old friends in a common-language.
While most beings would find this unbelievable, Mrs. Claus was not so simple-minded, being a mystical individual to some herself. She knew of all the different wonders and magical things life had to behold if you only just believed and looked beyond what lays on the surface. Mrs. Claus loved discovering new wonders more than almost anything. She’d been on expeditions all over the world to find and study rare life forms.
Dr. Zooklandberg blew the dinner whistle, jolting both Mrs. Claus and Fluffy out of their current state of curiosity and wonderment and reminding them they were famished. Mrs. Claus and Fluffy headed back, excitedly chatting about their discoveries all the way back to their campsite. As they settled down with their meal, choosing to sit around the campfire to share the latest goings-on at the North Pole with their friend, there was a sudden rustling in a nearby tree.
They all jumped up at once, just in time to see a bubble burst above them and a colorful bird flutter and nestle down onto a branch watching them. It seemed just as taken with them, as they were with it. Mrs. Claus was the first to break the silence. “Hmm…it has an uncanny resemblance to a toucan. Don’t you think?” she asked. Fluffy giggled, “it makes me think of watermelon!” They all tilted their heads one way and then the other way. The bird appeared to do the same.
