Spread the love

I’ve found that my muse is always gently whispering to me in the background. Though I fear, if I’m too be honest with myself, I’ve been frequently putting the beckoning on hold or ignoring it for the most part over the last several months. For a few main reasons…

1. When the melodies are loudest, it’s during my work day hours. While I’d love to set aside my important work tasks and draw and write, I feel that I have to force it down and tell my sweet muse, “I’m sorry Melody, I can’t come out and play with you right now. I’ll play later…”

2. This brings me to my second reason…Later comes and Melody sweetly sweeps in, “Okay, it’s later….are you ready to play?” My heart sinks and my soul cries as my brain and body remind me of how tired I am and all the “adulting” I still have to do. So I sadly say, “I’m sorry Melody, I’m too tired.” As I watch her walk disheartedly away and feel the inner agony of longing to play.

3. The third one is I think maybe I’ve been feeling a bit burned out recently. This is why I decided that I need to make more time to play…it’s a non-negotiable. I’ve just started reading…

1. The Artists Way by Julia Cameron

2. Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

These two books have been on my radar for quite some time, but I decided I needed these books in my life to help me better connect with my muse and creativity again.

There are exercises that are given in the Artists Way that I’m already finding very helpful only after one week. Today begins the start of week number two, which I’m absolutely ready for!

  1. Hi Jenna! Great to hear from you again! it can be hard striking a balance, I know! But so glad that you are following your muse! Hoping it works out and that I see you more on here, following your heart. Enjoy the books and be patient with yourself! <3 <3 and yes take the time to Play! πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you Carolyn, it’s definitely of pendulum swing…lol. Though I think the arm of my pendulum has been stuck too far in one direction for far too long. πŸ™ƒπŸ˜‰ My poor muse definitely deserves extra play dates, which is something I love about the book Artists Way, one of the weekly tasks is to carve out a total of 2 hours in the week for an artists date (a nice little play date for you and your muse). My Muse and heart are definitely kindred spirits, so I believe if I’m patient and work with them, rather than against things will more naturally fall into place. πŸ€—πŸ’žβ€οΈ

  3. Great post! I would caution you about putting your Muse on hold or ignoring her!!!
Having gone through a summer where she took a long vacation and I ended up with only a handful of pieces I might suggest you specifically set aside a time of day where you can spend 20-30 minutes a day with her – Mine likes late night or early morning. I hate when she leaves me alone on her vacation – I end up spending way too much time staring a blank white pages!!! Would hate to hear this happened to you!!!

  4. Looks like two wonderful books Jenna! Beautiful post – I hope you find your path again! Definitely understand the feeling of adulting and all the responsibilities.

    1. Thank you Sa! 😁 πŸ’– There’s another new book or book series in the works, but I think this one shall remain a bit of a mystery unto I’m ready to unveil it to the world. πŸ˜‰ That way I can work on that one a little bit at a time and finish previously started projects. 😜
