Here’s a story to touch your heart as we hold onto the love, warmth, hope, and magic to last us all throughout the year to come. And…if you haven’t already be sure to check out Part I! 😊 Happy New Year!!
Several nights passed before Luna felt strong enough to return to Hewy’s to check up on her new little mouse friend. The gust of wind had taken a bit more energy out of her than she’d anticipated. She smiled knowing soon she’d feel more like herself and could have a nice visit with all her friends at the Secret Santa Party.
Luna was on her way to the party when she saw a boy sitting all alone. His appearance was unusual. He had a soft snowy complexion. His hair was silver and glistened in the night air. There was something magical about him that drew Luna to him. She mustered up the courage to introduce herself.
The boy suddenly looked up, startled by her presence. Looking into his sky blue eyes there was something familiar about him, she couldn’t quite place. He looked around nervously under her scrutinizing gaze. She shook off the feeling that she’d seen him someplace before, and smiled encouragingly as she stuck out her hand to officially greet him.
A little hesitant in his response, he extended his hand. Jack trembled taken back by her sweetness. An unfamiliar sense of warmth spread through him as she invited him to tag along. Her generosity shook him to his very core. His face grew suddenly hot, what was this strange response that she jolted to life? Unnerved by his bizarre reaction to Luna and her kindness, he felt much obliged to accompany her and see these new sensations through.
Meanwhile, Hewy greeted his friends Belle, Ela, Odin, Freddie, and Snowflake as they entered the Grove Café. Everyone looked around eagerly expecting to see Luna. Hewy let out a sad sigh and said, I don’t think our sweet Luna will be coming he explained her situation as he introduced their newest friend Princeton, who’d been hiding bashfully behind a barrel of cider.
Just then, there was a knock at the door and Hewy opened it with a smile as he was greeted warmly by Luna and another unexpected guest. Hewy smiled genuinely and invited them both in, saying we’re all so happy you could be here. The atmosphere was truly captivating, and filled Jack with an understanding of friendship. Jack felt a surprisingly intoxicating sense of what it must feel like to be home.
Little Princeton, though usually shy had taken a liking to Jack. Maybe the little fella knew what it was like to be on the outside looking in. At the thought, Jack felt a pang of sadness squeeze his heart. He reached into his pocket and took out the most precious gift he’d ever received given to him by his granddad. He held it in his hand and it started to glow. He bent down and put it in Princeton’s paw.
Princeton’s eyes lit up and he hugged Jacks hand. Jack explained that the little encapsulated star and snowflake brought together the wish upon a star intertwined with the hope and magic of Christmas frozen together in time. Princeton’s eyes grew wide as he gently shook it back and forth.
To both his and Jack’s surprise, the star shot through the snowy sky. Jack remembered his grandfather’s words, “Jack, only a true act of selfless giving can unlock the magic of the capsule. Jack finally understood the meaning of his grandfather’s words. It’s magic was brought to life by Jack’s gift of love and friendship.
Luna watched from a distance as the magic and meaning of Christmas surrounded her in the truest spirit of love and giving. She tapped her glass of warm apple cider to good health, love, and friendship all throughout the year. Each smiled from ear to ear and agreed cheerfully hear, hear!
